Trinidad and Tobago volleyball team became the first indoor side from the English-speaking Caribbean to ever qualify for a World Championships which will be held in Japan in October 2018.
They qualify for the biggest tournament in the sport after the Olympic Game with a commanding 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 against Costa Rica at the National Cycling Center in Central Trinidad last Saturday night.
The victory also made certain of a place in Japan next October for the Mexicans, who would have needed to defeat T&T when the round-robin ended last Saturday night to be certain of qualifying had Costa Rica won convincingly.
Four years ago, the Trinidad and Tobago women came within a win of securing a spot for Italy, but fell to host Cuba in a group-decider after wins over Curacao and Haiti.
Then a few months later, the Calypso girls stumbled in the final match against Mexico in Trinidad and Tobago, after wins over Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama.
