The Trinidad and Tobago government has taken a decision not to support a bid to host matches in the Twenty20 Women’s World Cup, which will be played in the Caribbean this year.
The government did not meet the deadline of bidding for matches recently.
The Ministry of Sport decided that due to the economic situation of the country, it would not be feasible to host matches.
The Women’s World Cup will be hosted in the Caribbean from Nov. 3 to 24, during the 2018-2019 international cricket season.
It will be the sixth edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup Twenty20, and the second to be hosted by the West Indies (after the 2010 edition).
The tournament was awarded to Cricket West Indies (CWI) at the 2013 annual conference of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
West Indies women’s cricketer Merrisa Aguilleira believes women’s cricket in Trinidad and Tobago would take a step back, after the government’s decision to not to make a bid to host matches.
