Veteran Jamaican radio broadcaster, Richard “Richie B” Burgess has joined Newark, NJ-based Roadblock Radio, which began broadcasting Caribbean content on CBS 101.1 FM HD3 in the tri-state area on May 1.

Roadblock Radio covers Bridgeport, CT, New York City and surrounding communities in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens; and south and central New Jersey, as well as parts of Pennsylvania.

Station Chief Executive Officer Kacy Rankine told Caribbean Life that he is hoping that “Richie B,” who, at one time, was regarded as “The King of Morning Radio” in Jamaica, will provide news and entertainment content, and help to close the divide between Jamaica and the Diaspora.

“It is a big deal for New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania to have a broadcaster of the caliber of “Richie B” on Roadblock Radio,” he said. “Richie has blazed numerous trails over the course of his decorated 30-year career on radio.

“Listeners can expect an electrifying morning show filled with local and international news bites, engaging discussions with notable guests, plenty of laughter and the hottest tunes to kick-start the day,” he added. “We look forward to his distinctive voice and compelling content every morning.”

Rankine said “Richie B” will host/present the 7 – 10 a.m. “Richie B Morning Show,” heard on Richie B Radio (www.richiebradio.com) and simulcast in the tri-state on Roadblock Radio, CBS 101.1 FM HD3.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be back on the airwaves in the tri-state area,” Burgess said. “Connecting with listeners on terrestrial radio in the Diaspora and the wider world online brings a unique energy and vibrancy that is truly invigorating.

“I’m excited to share the rhythms of Kingston with this diverse and dynamic audience,” he added.

Other top-flight radio jocks who were added to the Roadblock Radio platform include Ian D Goose (Island VibeZ), heard Mon-Thurs from 2 – 5 p.m.; Rupie T (The Blend), heard Mon-Wed., 8 – 10 p.m.; VJ Antonio (Box Lunch Mix), heard Mon-Wed., noon – 2 p.m.; and DJ Entourage (Roadblock Radio Drive By), heard Mon-Friday from 5 – 8 p.m.
