After briefly occupying the number eight position on the One-Day International (ODI) table, West Indies have now slipped to ninth after their string of defeats at the ICC 2019 World Cup.
The West Indies were crushed by India by 125 runs for their 5th defeat in seven matches at the premier ODI event in England last week.
The Caribbean side has now moved below Sir Lanka (eight) and now has 77 points with the Sri Lankans on 78. They are just above Afghanistan in 10th spot, who is yet to win match in the World Cup.
If the West Indies defeat Sri Lanka this week they will move back to position eight.
They were ranked 9th in the ODIs at the cut-off date for the World Cup consideration in September 2017. They then had to go through a qualification phase and came second to Afghanistan (who is the bottom of the rankings) to grab the l0th and final spot at the World Cup
India has jumped over England and is now the number one team in ODIs.
The Indians now need just one more victory out of their last three matches in the preliminary stages to qualify for the semi-finals.
