‘What’s Driving the ‘New Cold War’?’

As the crisis escalates in Ukraine, a pro-Kiev fascist firebombs Odessa’s Trade Union Building on May 2, 2014, former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark and anti-war leaders will gather this Saturday, May 10, 2014, 3:00 p.m. at NYC’s Riverside Church for an urgent teach-in titled: “What’s Driving the ‘New Cold War’?”

“The need for a response from the U.S. anti-war left to the events in the Ukraine has never been greater,” organizers say. The crisis there has sharply escalated with Friday’s brutal firebombing of Odessa’s Trade Union Building, a war crime that killed dozens of people and maimed and injured hundreds.”

Playing its usual role in a war situation caused by 1 percent interests, the corporate media is hiding the nature of the attack and the fascist identity of the culprits.

This Saturday at New York’s Riverside Church, leaders in the anti-war movement will hold a 3:00 p.m. Ukraine teach-in titled “What’s Driving the New Cold War’?”

Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark will speak, as will Glen Ford of the Black Agenda Report and former CIA analyst (now anti-war activist) Ray McGovern.

Only the people and a peoples’ movement can bring clarity and truth to this situation,” said Sara Flounders of the International Action Center, the initiator of the event.

“The Pentagon has moved warships and warplanes to the area — as has the UK and France — but none of these forces are there to help put a top to the fascist violence,” Flounders said. “They are there to protect the t IMF’s multi-billion-dollar investment in Kiev’s illegal government.”

“The U.S. backing of this gang means monthly pensions reduced by half, tens of thousands of layoffs and skyrocketing gas and oil prices,” Flounders continued.

“While thousands of miles separate the Ukraine and New York, our enemies are the same: the big banks and domination of finance capital, which demand that the people submit to austerity or feel the violence of a fascist thug or brutal cop.”
