Adams still critical after suffering heart attack

Trinidad and Tobago National Team defender Akeem Adams was up to this evening battling for his life after suffering a massive heart attack on Wednesday night following a training session with his club Ferencvárosi TC, in Hungary. The 22-year-old player who made his senior international debut at age 16 under ex-head coach Francisco Maturana in 2008, was undergoing his third surgery up to late Thursday afternoon. His mother Ancilla Adams and brother Akini are currently in Budapest.

Sosa added that Adams had not regained consciousness since being admitted to the Varosmajori Clinic where he is under the care of Professor Merkely Bela and supporting doctors and nurses. At the last heard the Trinidad and Tobago defender remains in critical condition at the ICU of the Varosmajori Heart Clinic in Hungary. However there was one significant occurrence as the 22-year-old player was said to have nodded in acknowledgement of his mother’s presence and held her hand for a brief moment on Sunday morning. Prior to Mrs. Ancilla Adams departure from the Island she noted that she would get a reaction from her ailing son and she got her wish.

There have been some 250 blood donors to date and doctors are hoping to perform the heart transplant at some point next week. FIFA Social Media manager Alex Stone was in touch with the TTFA on Friday, indicating that Blatter was aware of Adam’s situation and has sent his regards to his family and the Trinidad and Tobago Football fraternity.
