American Candy: Rock Comedy will be held for two nights on Sept. 21 and 22 at South Oxford Space 138 South Oxford St. in Fort Greene, Brooklyn starting at 8:00 p.m.

Like the greats before them: “Lonely Island,” “Garfunkel and Oates,” “Flight of the Concords” and “Tenacious D,” “American Candy” really puts their mark on musical comedy. “American Candy: Rock Comedy” weaves several musical comedy hits between sketches that zero in on the lunacy of pop stars and the music industry. And from the insanity of DMX, the fervor of groupies and kids who want to be pop stars, “American Candy: Rock Comedy” gives a delicious glimpse into this country’s favorite art form.

“American Candy: Rock Comedy” is the 24th show for this Brooklyn-based sketch comedy group. Continuing with a strong thematic structure, the latest offering from American Candy is on the music industry.

Founder and Creative Director of American Candy Hollie Harper and Producer Patranila Jefferson have built a successful series by removing the stereotype that all comedy is the provenance of young white men. With a multi-cultural cast and team of female and male writers, the material has a wide appeal. American Candy has been offering sketch comedy to extremely receptive audiences in Manhattan and Brooklyn since June of 2009. Past themes have included “Politics As Usual,” “The History of Sex,” “The Super 70s” and “The Wild, Wild West.” With an energetic troupe of talented actors and a strong base of writers and directors, “American Candy” is fast becoming a comedy institution in New York City.
