Bobby Digital releases two-part music collection

Grammy-winning Jamaican producer Bobby Digital recently released a new compilation mix. The hit-maker put together a two-part anthology series, “Volume 1: X-tra Wicked” and “Volume 2: Serious Times” — a collection of some of his greatest hits. He says he started assembling the project a few years ago to give his fans something reminiscent of classic reggae.

“This project was in the making for five years now and it is comprised of a lot of my work,” said Digital. “We needed to have a real project that we can give back to the people, because they have not heard a nice package of music like this for a long time.”

In total, the project has 40 songs — some of the oldest dating back to 1985, and others as recent as 2013, according to Digital. Accompanied with the set is a DVD video entitled “The Bobby Digital Story.” The producer said it was necessary to provide his listeners with some visuals along with tunes.

“Over the years seeing companies compile stuff, I said one day it will be my time to compile my stuff and footage would also be a part of it,” he said. “I don’t just want to give people audio, I want them to have something to see when they hear it.”

The tracks on the discs include several songs from Shabba Ranks, Buju Banton, Chaka Demus, and Mad Cobra. Digital said all of the songs are well-loved and appropriate for any occasion, and listeners will find so.

“I love how we know over the years we’ve done good music, within the sense that this music can be played in the household and you don’t doubt or wonder if it’s fit to play around a child,” said Digital. “There’s music in there for party lovers and dance lovers — it’s good stuff.”

The series will be an instant favorite among listeners because collectors, deejays, and sound systems are going to find the specific tracks they are looking for, said Digital.

Digital said he is working on another forthcoming project with reggae recording artists Sizzla, and also on another compilation for his fans.

“We are coming out really strong, and bigger and better,” he said. “I’m going to take my time to do some homework because we know what the public is looking for.”
