Seville, Jackson clock season bests at Jamaica Nationals

Oblique Seville and Shericka Jackson both recorded season-best performances as they claimed gold in the men’s and women’s 100m events at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) National Championships recently. 

At the National Stadium, reigning World Champion, Oblique Seville won his first national 100m title in a world-leading time of 9.82 seconds, moving ahead of Kayinsola Ajayi’s 9.84. as the world leader. 

Gary Card impressed with a national U20 record of 9.93 seconds to take silver, while Ackeem Blake earned bronze in a season’s best 9.94 seconds. 

Card’s performance also surpassed the previous junior record of 9.99 seconds set in 2023 by Bouwahjgie Nkrumie and ranks him joint third on the all-time list alongside Christian Miller.

On the women’s side, Shericka Jackson produced her fastest time in three years, winning the women’s 100m in 10.81 seconds to receive her fourth national title and first since 2024. 

Jackson overcame a slow start to catch defending champion Tina Clayton, who finished second in 10.85 seconds, while Jonelle Smith ran a personal best 10.94 seconds for third place. 

Jackson’s time ranks as the third-fastest in the world this year, behind the British Virgin Islands Adaejah Hodge’s in 10.63 seconds and Jamaican Shenese Walker’s 10.80 seconds.
