The message did not stop there. The Motown Records group who scored a hit by releasing the hit single “Brick House” in 1977 punctuated with: “We support the betterment of all Americans.”
The blistering rebuke from the hitmakers add to a growing barrage of disenchanted rejections from entertainers unwilling to participate in the Trump-backed Freedom250 anniversary concert planned to celebrate America’s independence from June 25.
Although organizers disclaim associations with the White House, a dump Trump movement erupted less than 48 hours after announcement of the lineup.
Five of the nine nightly attractions invited to perform reneged on fulfilling their initial promise.
They all claim they were misinformed when they were first contacted.
Apparently assuming the event would include either a bipartisan or non-partisan agenda, a written agreement stated otherwise.
According to dissenters, discrepancies align with partisan leanings to the Trump administration.
Young MC was first to abstain from the 16-day event. He said the reason for his decision to decline the invitation was because he was misled.
Soon afterwards, country singer Martina McBride opted out and Brett Michaels, winner of Donald Trump’s TV reality performance show also rejected the invitation.
In a statement he said: “Unfortunately what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of.”
Each talent cited a blatant partisan agenda, the reason for deciding against the month-end salute.
Others named for the bookings include Millie Vanilli, (Fab Morvan, the sole member of the former duo) Vanilla Ice, Flo Rida and C&C Music Factory.
In a message posted on social media, a Prince- founded performance group reportedly stated: “Contrary to rumor, Morris Day and the Time will not perform at the Great American State Fair.”
In response to the tsunami, President Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday posting “cancel it.”
The president amplified his anger by insulting the slew of unwilling talents calling them “third rate” “overpriced” and “boring.”
And along with recriminations the Republican leader proposed a Make America Great Again rally which he said he would headline as the main attraction.
