Chigumbura left out of Caribbean tour

One of Zimbabwe’s most experienced players, Elton Chigumbura, has been left out of squads announced recently to play Tests and One-Day International matches against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

Zimbabwe Cricket announced that Chigumbura, a former captain, will not be touring the Caribbean due to his poor form.

Chigumbura, who has over 100 ODI caps, is the only notable absentee in the nation-starved Zimbabwe side.

Brandon Taylor will skipper the side, which will play two Test matches, three ODIs and two Twenty20 games against the World Twenty20 champions.

The tour runs from Feb. 20 to March 20 and will feature matches in Grenada, Antigua, Barbados and Dominica.

The month-long tour will be Zimbabwe’s first competitive assignment since the World Twenty20 tournament in Sri Lanka and their first tour since New Zealand in January last year.

The tour will get underway with a three-match ODI series, which will see international cricket returns to the Grenada National Stadium for the first time since 2009.

The three-match ODI series will take place from Feb. 22-26. Antigua will play host to the two Twenty20 matches on consecutive days, March 2-3. The reigning ICC World Twenty20 champions have only met Zimbabwe once before in Twenty20 matches.
