The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) matches which were played at Warner Park last year (2015) have boosted the St. Kitts and Nevis economy to the tune of US$20 million, the government reported.
The government in St. Kitts is also reporting that the CPL organization also increased its direct operational spending to the local economy by 2.4 percent to US$1.3 million last year (2015) generating 243 jobs.
A government statement said the figures had been independently verified and are contained in an independent study carried out by SMA Insight.
Sports Minister Shawn Richards said the hosting of the CPL games in St. Kitts and Nevis continues to yield positive gains for the beautiful twin-island federation.
“These gains extend to our economy, the development or our local cricketing talent, our sporting facilities and the development of the island’s human resources.
The government says the report showed a total incremental expenditure by spectators and tourists to almost US$4 million in 2015.
This, it says, has resulted in occupancy of 4,461 hotel room nights on the twin islands, an increase of 39 percent on the 2014 figure.
