Now in its second year of bringing live entertainment to the Borough of Brooklyn, H.U.G.E LLC has proven that it has what it takes to put on a show-stopping concert, and last Saturday’s presentation was proof of that.
In addition to packing a warehouse yard now known as the Brooklyn Arts Center with thousands of fans, the entertainment company took time out to honor a group of Guyanese professionals whose contributions were as part of a day of music, dance, food, and a Children’s Village.
At about 10 pm just after a heavy downpour that almost abruptly ended the energetic party, President of H.U.G.E, Daune Campbell presented plaques, trophies, and certificates, mid-show with honoree Gordon Moseley on hand to help with the honors.
Set against the backdrop of Guyana’s Golden Arrowhead flag, loud applause greeted honorees Tangerine Clarke, correspondent of this publication, Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection of Guyana Semona Broomes, Gold Medalist Alliann Pompey, politician Sharma Solomon, former boxing champion Wayne ‘Big Truck” Braithwaite, humanitarian Malissa Garner and athlete, Christopher Jones.
Absent were community activist, Sherod Duncan and volunteer Chris Bassoo. Dr. Faith Harding received a posthumous honor.
The event attracted a mélange of great artists who provided non-stop pulsating music throughout more than six hours of performances from crowd pleasing duo Jumo Primo and Adrian Dutchin, to Vincy “Rappin Tate Da Great,” and Marian Porlett Williams, who performed her “Guyana Rise” anthem.
Fans, many who crowded the fence in front of the stage, screamed, waved flags and twirled into the wee hour of 2 am with Terry Gajraj and Big Red and many other artistes who thrilled the crowd with sensational Soca, and Rap hits.
Guyana’s 13-member band which was flown into New York at short notice, thanks to Capt. Gerry Gouveia of Dynamic Airways International – wowed the crowd with Deejay Cabbage at the helm.
In addition, costume-clad masqueraders Rudiana Bunbury and Joelle Harmon shook their tail feathers bringing the Labor Day Carnival into focus.
The H.U.G.E. Entertainment Committee of Shoan Sampson, Brian Roberts, Marc Wallace, Oneal Alexander, Damian Wallace and Dexter Wallace thanked the Guyana government who they said gave them tremendous support.
“We would like to thank the NYPD and Ms. Sherif Barker Fraser and her team who worked tirelessly for the success of the event.
“Thanks to all the honorees who traveled from near and far, and to our fans, we love you all,” were the words expressed by the group who acknowledged the media for the full coverage they provided.
