Guyana Folk Fest in Brooklyn

Celebrating its 10th anniversary under the theme “Aal bady waan bady,” the Annual Guyana Folk Festival is inviting all brides and grooms to its Kwe Kew demonstration and ceremony tonight, Friday, Sept. 2.

The event will be held in the auditorium of St. Stephens Church, at 2806 Newkirk Avenue & 28th Street in Brooklyn starting 8:00 p.m.

SUNY/Empire State College, at 177 Livingston Street, 6th Floor, in Brooklyn, will be the venue for a symposium that will discuss “Arrivals, Encounters and Exchange of the multi-cultural heritage of the Guyanese people.” The sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3.

A Family Fun Day will follow on Sunday, Sept. 4, at the Meyer Levin School grounds, located at 5908 Beverly Road and Ralph Avenue. Gates open at 11:00 a.m. Children under 16 are free.

A Performing Arts Theatre on Sept. 23, 24, 25 will continue the celebrations with CLR James’ play, “Minty Ally” to be staged in the Meyer Levin School Auditorium, at 5909 Beverly Road at Ralph Avenue, in Brooklyn. All shows will begin at 4:00 p.m.
