June 10 flag raising to mark Guyana’s 56th Independence Anniversary

Mayor Ted R. Green of the City of East Orange and Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake of the 34th Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly in collaboration with the Guyana American Heritage Foundation Inc.’s president Lady Ira Lewis, has set the stage to welcome scores of Guyanese nationals and friends to the return of flag raising at 44 City Hall Plaza, East Orange, New Jersey, on Friday, June 10, after a two-year pause due to COVID-19.

The 56th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Guyana that will be celebrated with the hoisting of the Golden Arrowhead flag over City Hall, before a multicultural splendor with the performance of performances, will run from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., and will present an extensive program to celebrate the homeland.

Fazal Joe Yussuff, MPA, Investment & Diaspora Affairs, Consulate of Guyana New York, will also bring greetings from the government of Guyana during the evening of celebration expected to include dignitaries and elected officials from New York.

According to Lady Ira Lewis, Guyanese who have made outstanding contributions to the diaspora will be presented with citations and certificates during the commemoration, also beings hosted with help from the Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs of the Mayor’s Office.
