The comedic prowess of one of the Caribbean’s most sought-after talents will be on full display when Learie Joseph, in one of his now infrequent New York appearances, takes center stage for an entire evening of guaranteed riotous laughter, Saturday, Nov. 8 at Tropical Paradise Ballroom, starting at 8:30 p.m.
Joseph, who has come to be seen as being in a league all his own as an entertainer and master of sketch comedy, will be joined by two of his performance sidekicks, Wendell Etienne and Delores Alexander.
Trinidad-born Joseph started his own company, Learie’s Comedy Marathon, in 1995 after several years spent with the Trinidad Theatre Workshop. By then proving himself adept at both performing and writing, with a particular flair for comedy, he crafted dozens of skits that have over the years been performed by himself and his troupe regulars. Appearing in concert at venues all over Trinidad and Tobago as well as overseas, Joseph has seen his reputation as a comedy institution explode to outsize proportions, on the strength of the phenomenal crowd appeal that has now become synonymous with his shows. Clearly at the top of his game as a major comedic presence, he has taken his popular show to stages in the U.S., Canada and throughout the Caribbean.
The Nov. 8 audience is in for a treat, when Joseph and his supporting cast get into skit material that routinely elicits end-to-end belly laughs. Veteran samplers of the Joseph-style humor know that his material runs the gamut of topics –unrequited love, running afoul of the law, childhood misadventures, infidelity, etc.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for the show’s 8:30 p.m. start. Tropical Paradise Ballroom is located at 1367 Utica Ave., Brooklyn (between Farragut & Foster). Tickets can be purchased at the usual neighborhood outlets. The show is a production of Unique Caribbean Promotions.
