Bangladesh fans pelt Windies team

International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Officer Karoon Lorgart has described the stoning of the West Indies team bus by angry Bangladesh fans as “a minor incident” not worthy of serious sanctions.

Angry fans at the tournament co-host’s nine-wicket defeat to West Indies threw stones at the bus as it left the Sker-e Bangla Stadium in Mirput suburb of Dhaka recently to take the players back to their hotel in Bangladesh capital.

The CEO of the sport’s World governing body, under whose aegis the tournament is organized, said there were no immediate plans to move matches.

However, Executive President of the West Indies Players’ Association Dinanath Ramnarine said he was concerned about the ability of individuals to be able to attack the bus, without the protection promised in the event’s security plans.

WIPA has called for a revised security assessment saying it must be done immediately to provide better security for the regional players to ensure their safety against all potential threats for the remainder of the World Cup and future events.
