Band leader Pamela Date, who hails from St. Andrew, Grenada, told Caribbean Life that this year’s production is “a representation of our universe.”
Date, who founded the band with her compatriot Adrian Isaac, said it was formed in honor of her daughter, Rhea Date.
Date described Rhea as “a young upcoming soca artiste and also her love for the culture.”
“Earth, Wind and Fire” comprises four sections: Earth, Wind, Sun and Fire.
There are a combination of both male and female in each section, with 20 masquerades in each section, Date said.
She said the band is open to all nationalities, and hopes to “put on a splendid performance this year.
“Our performance last year was superb, and we placed third in the competition,” Date said. “The masquerades expect great costumes, with lots of fun and excitement for this year’s Kiddies Carnival.”
Date said preparations for the carnival is “going great,” adding that Rhea and Associates is getting help from band members and parents of the kids.
Music for “Earth, Wind and Fire” will be furnished by DJ One Drop.
The founders have participated in making mas over 20 years and participated in the West Indian American Day Carnival Parade for over 15 years.
Rhea and Associates is located at 384 Linden Blvd., between East 34th and East 35th streets in Brooklyn.
