Discarded West Indies Captain Darren Sammy will be used to promote the upcoming Women’s Twenty20 World Cup.

Sammy, who has joined Cricket West Indies (CWI) Ambassadors Program, would use his star appeal to create awareness in the build-up to the ICC event scheduled for Nov. 9-24 in Guyana, St. Lucia and Antigua, the organizers said.

The CWI’s Ambassador Program involves using current and past players in the promotion of cricket events and related commercial activities.

Sammy, who led the West Indies to two Twenty20 World Cup titles, said it is an honor and huge pleasure to join the team for the ICC Women’s World Cup.

He presided over the Windies capture of the 2016 Twenty20 World Cup in India, but was fired four months later without playing another game for the regional side.

Since then, the former Test and ODI captain has focused his energies on the lucrative global domestic Twenty20 circuit.

West Indies Women are defending champions in the upcoming tournament.
