Fly Jamaica Airways has extended its reach into the Caribbean community with the opening of a new ticketing office at 1397 Nostrand Ave., two doors from Linden Boulevard Avenue in the heart of Brooklyn, for travellers who like the comfort of face to face service, when booking travel.

Last Thursday, June 15 Hon. Barbara Atherly Consul General of Guyana to New York joined Marketing Manager of Fly Jamaica Kayla Reece in a significant ribbon-cutting ceremony that received ecumenical blessings. The first Fly Jamaica office opened in Queens some years ago.

Carl Bowen, marketing manager, welcomed travel agents and vacationers, stating that the new ticketing office is to facilitate customers in Brooklyn who cried-out for an office to do business, with customer service, void of an automated system.

Guyanese-born owners of Fly Jamaica, Captain Ronald Reece and Roxanne Reece after a champaign toast hosted a launch reception at Jamaican Trelawni Place, on Utica Avenue where CEO Capt. Ronald Reece thanked customers who he said remained committed to Fly Jamaica since it began flights four years ago, from JFK, to Jamaica and Guyana, and later Canada.

Capt. Reece said with the help of Marketing Manager Kayla Reece, the airline plans to woo citizens of the diaspora back to their homelands of Guyana and Jamaica to enjoy the pleasures of the Caribbean.

He applauded the cabin attendants and the team of Fly Jamaica Airways, who he said worked hard to make the operation wonderful.

“With the support of our passengers and tourists and business travelers from the diaspora that make our operations successful, I say thank you. I hope you continue to support Fly Jamaica Airways,” he added.

Consul General, Barbara Atherly while thanking the Reece family for inviting the consulate to be a part of their successful launch, congratulated Fly Jamaica Airways for the new initiative.

“We are impressed with the expansion in Brooklyn. This is a great opportunity to reach more people in the diaspora and to forge stronger bonds between Guyana and Jamaica,” said Atherly.

She recalled the tireless travel she experienced as a student calling it a ‘bus ride’ where she had to travel to several Caribbean countries before arriving in Kingston, Jamaica. She added that Fly Jamaica Airways now makes it easier, faster, and more efficient for the community, while creating an opportunity for tourism.

CG Atherly is confident that a tourism package to include Jamaica’s sand and sea, and Guyana’s eco-tourism, would attract passengers to both destinations using Fly Jamaica Airways on a larger scale.

“You are a great organization that invest in the community. Your corporate responsibility is impressive, and you have been contributing to the Guyanese community in New York and at home. I congratulate you and wish you ever success,” said the consul general.

“I know you will be doing greater and better things, in both the Guyanese and Jamaican community, that would benefit greatly,” she added.

Roxanne Reece, in turn, thanked the traveling public for their continued support that has made the airline the success it is today.

Dr. Una Clarke, added that this is what economic development is all about, and called on the nationals to continue its support for Fly Jamaica Airways.

“We cannot call ourselves a Caribbean community if we do not support each other. There is money at stake, we have to support our own. We need to get together to support Fly Jamaica, plan your itinerary around the airline,” Clarke encouraged.
