Two Jamaican cricketers walked away the major prizes at last week’s fourth West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) / West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) Award Ceremony in Antigua.

Middle-order batsman Marlon Samuels captured the prestigious Cricket-of-the-Year award and the One-Day International Player-of-the-Year and Twenty20 International Player-of-the-Year honor, while West Indies women’s captain, Stafanie Taylor took the Women’s Player-of-the-Year award.

Taylor, 25, also won the One-Day International Player-of-the-year and Twenty20 International Player-of-the- Year, to complete a clean sweep of the women’s awards.

Last year, Samuels, 35, scored 484 runs from nine Tests while scoring 601 runs from 15 One-Day Internationals and 118 runs from five Twenty20s.

He also played a key role in West Indies winning the Twenty20 World Cup in India last April, scoring an unbeaten 85 off 66 balls in the final to defeat England.

Taylor, hit 491 runs in 10 One-Day Internationals last year at an average of 70.14 and 197 runs at an average of 49, in six Twenty20s.

She also guided the West Indies Women to capture their maiden Twenty20 World Cup title in April scoring 246 runs in six matches. The Caribbean side defeated three-time defending champions Australia Women.

The hard-hitting Jamaican opener Chris Gayle won the Twenty20 Player-of-the-Year award.

Trinidadian Darren Bravo, was adjudged Test Player-of-the–Year for his 644 runs at an average of 35, with a century and five half centuries.
