Making a Difference Initiative launched with a donation in Grenada

The health of children and seniors will be positively impacted by a barrel of children’s diapers and feeding bags with tubes attached, which were delivered on Wednesday, to the Grenada General Hospital, by local Catholic priest, Fr. Leroy Hopkin, on behalf of New York-based donors, Christine Grant and Cheryl Vincent, who are both Grenadians.

The items, some of which are visible in the attached photo, were accepted by the Director of Hospital Services, Esther Henry-Fleary, on the compound of the facility.

At the handing over ceremony, Henry-Fleary expressed sincere appreciation to Fr. Hopkin, for the much needed items, and asked him to convey to the donors, her gratitude, on behalf of the General Hospital.

Fr. Hopkin, the parish priest at the St. David’s R.C. Church, who cleared the barrel of donated items from Customs in Grenada, acted as the local facilitator of the inaugural act of the charitable effort, which has been dubbed the “Making a Difference Initiative” (MDI).

The principal donors and organizers responsible for the sourcing of this donation, are New York based Christine Grant, a self-employed occupational therapist and Cheryl Vincent, a registered nurse and recording artiste.

The logistical coordination of the initiative and the shipment of the items were done as acts of charity by consultant Gerry Hopkin of the Hopkins Consulting Group LLC, and the international cargo company, Star Shipping, respectively.

“The intended beneficiaries of the items just donated, are the children and seniors of Grenada, Carriacou & Petite Martinique who utilize our hospitals and clinics,” said Grant and Vincent, in an issued joint statement.

Both Grant and Vincent are from Gouyave, St. John. They are also founding members of Spice Island Youthquake and active leading members of the longest continously running Caribbean folk-liturgical group in the Diaspora, Quake USA.

This “Making a Difference Initiative” delivery of needed items, is the first of a series of charitable donations aimed at positively impacting the lives and living conditions of children, youths and seniors in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique and the wider Caribbean. Future donations will generally address needs in healthcare and education, but would not be limited to these areas.
