Sir Curtly Ambrose, one of the greatest West Indies fast bowlers, praised Kevin Wickham as a “special talent” with tremendous potential after his remarkable start to the 2026 West Indies Championship.
Following Sir Curtly’s remarks, the 23-year-old Barbados Pride batsman has demonstrated outstanding form. He began the tournament with a superb 153 in the first innings against the Jamaica Scorpions, followed by an unbeaten 108 in the second innings of the same match.
This achievement placed him alongside Ryan Hinds and his captain, Kraigg Brathwaite, as the only Barbadians in the modern era to score centuries in both innings of a first-class game.
Continuing this strong momentum, Wickham entered the second match and scored another impressive 105 in the first innings, further underlining his consistency and marking a record-breaking run of three consecutive centuries early in the competition.
Speaking on the Mason and Guest radio program recently, Sir Curtly had high praise for Wickham.
“I worked with him with the Under-19s a few years ago, and I told Floyd Reifer that this guy has so much talent that if he gets an opportunity, I believe he will go really far. He is a wonderful talent,” Sir Curtly said.
