Team Jamaica Bickle’s 5K Run

With just about seven months to go before the annual Penn Relays, Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) is gearing up for a sterling 2012 season of activities, and will start with a 5K Run at Baisley Park, Queens, New York on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The meet is set to start at 10:00 a.m. with ‘race day’ registration at 8:00 a.m. Billed as an event to promote healthy lifestyles, the 5K also seeks to raise funds to support Team Jamaica Bickle’s various programs throughout the year.

The Team Jamaica Bickle 5K is being staged in conjunction with New York based Awesome Power Track Club and is a USA Track & Field (USATF) sanctioned event. The meet is expected to attract top athletes in the field and is open to ages 14 through to 100.

Along with the 5K Run there will be a 5K walk and a 1 Mile Run. There will be numerous prizes.

“We are excited to stage the Team Jamaica Bickle 5K,” said Irwine Clare, founder and CEO. “This effort has in its genesis a broader vision for the community. It is a significant step in driving grassroots support for our programs while promoting a healthy lifestyle,” said Clare.

Sean Phillips of Awesome Power said, “We are getting support from established meet directors and organizers so expect a well-run event even though this is our inaugural year. We have targeted top runners and expect to host a large field of competitors.” The Team is expecting participation from a wide cross section of the community.
