Miss Guyana World Andrea King goes to India to vie in 71st pageant

Consul General of Guyana to New York Ambassador Michael E. Brotherson, told Caribbean life on Feb. 20, that Miss World Guyana 2022/2023, Andrea Sophia Crystal King, made a courtesy call to the Consulate of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana in New York, where he congratulated her.

“I truly believe that she will make Guyana proud,” said Ambassador Brotherson, adding that she received a wonderful welcomed on Feb. 15 and was given a tour of the diplomatic office.

The beauty was also presented with a bouquet and photographed with the Consulate’s Staff.

National Director of the Miss Guyana World Pageant, Natasha Blu Martindale, told Caribbean Life on Feb. 19, that she is excited to support beauty queen Andrea S.C. King who began her journey last week to vie for the crown in the 71st pageant in Mumbai, India.

“Despite navigating one of the most unusual and challenging post-pandemic journeys because of the extended timeline for the international competition, Andrea epitomizes beauty with a purpose,” she said of the 26-year-old reigning Miss Guyana World 2022/2023.

“Her dedication, patience, and advocacy for financial literacy in Guyana inspired so many. Andrea’s presence on the global stage represents the resilience and beauty of our nation, showcasing the depth of talent and passion within our borders,” said Martindale who assumed the role of franchise holder 10 years ago.

The official Miss World Guyana Stylist, fashion designer Roger Gary, told Caribbean Life that the contestant just finished up an exciting two-day visit to New York and she makes her way to Delhi and then Mumbai, India where she will take part in the 71st Miss World Pageant.

“She will be one of the 115 delegates who will via for the title. It was Andrea’s first visit to NY and like most visitors, she took to shopping for her Miss World wardrobe like a professional. She was accompanied by me,” he said of the beauty, who will participate in a series of events before the March 6 competition.

Gary said the queen also visited the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan, “where she was able to view the art installations on display, adding that “Andrea was given tokens of Guyana from Consul General to New York, Ambassador Michael Brotherson, that she can present to new friends in India,” he said.

King, a program management officer, in a Facebook post, expressed gratitude for the support she continues to receive, noting, “I’ve began my adventure of a lifetime. One of purpose, sisterhood, cultural exchange, and relationship building. The true epitome of women empowerment; the @missworld journey.”

“Being the representation of Guyana in this competition is my honor and I embody this role with much pride and respect for my country. With your unwavering support, I am fueled with determination to showcase our culture and abilities to the world.”

“Thank you for believing in me. Together, let’s shine brightly and show the world Guyana,” she added.

“Keep close to my social media pages and my contestant page on the Miss World website for daily updates as I go through the days. Your engagement is important and will keep Guyana trending well. I cannot do this without you,” she expressed.
