‘Miss Tropical Paradise’ semifinals set for Queens

Plans for the Miss Tropical Paradise Beauty Pageant 2014 are moving full steam ahead and on schedule, according to event founder Marcia Deans. The semifinals will be held this year on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Clipper 11 in Queens, N.Y.

The pageant, which was first held 15 years ago, was developed to showcase the talents and accomplishments of women of Caribbean, USA and South American decent.

“The principal objective of the pageant is to uplift the images of the women and to foster strong communication skills regardless of their cultural background. The pageant also serves to inspire young women to pursue their dreams through the scholarship fund that is among the list of prizes,” Deans said.

VJ Catcha Fyah and Nanda will host the event which will see 16 women competing in the semifinals. The top 10 will compete on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Dunn’s Villa Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica for the title Miss Tropical Paradise USA. The winner will be awarded various prizes including a full scholarship valued at US$7,200 to attend Future Star Studio in New York.

Performers at the semifinals include NJ based singer Teddy Brown, Dance Master, Genah and Lotus. Brown and Modlow will be honored for their support of the pageant over the past 14 years.
