Playing through the season on splendid form, Chargers convincingly beat two more opponents last week on their way towards gaining enough points for an unassailable lead making them the Barbados Volleyball Association Division One League 2018 champions.
En route to the top and title of reigning queens, the Chargers ladies last week swept aside and dethroned last year’s monarch, Warrens, by three sets to one to end the season wait a total of 53 points.
Two days earlier the now 2018 Queens hammered Deacons in straight sets.
Though the Chargers’ victory over Warrens was the icing on the cake, the 2018 queens had already amassed enough points, 48, in the previous game against Deacons to put them in an unbeatable position and earn the league title.
The 2018 crowning was all the more sweet for Chargers as they had to settle for number two position behind Warrens last year.
The season ended with Warrens as runner-up on 42 points, and Deacons third with 32.
Elated Chargers coach, Lerone Knight, credited the team spirit for getting to the pinnacle of Barbados female volleyball, “the togetherness was important.”
He added that the ladies played as a unit despite some of them being newcomers to that level of competition.
“We had one or two players who never played with us before. They played in the lower division and then came up to help out.”
